As you will have gathered from following the campaign, "Carmilla & Others Sories" comprises three short stories written by Sheridan le Fanu, a 19th-century Irish writer:

• "Carmilla", a vampire story,
• "Green Tea", a haunting story,
• "Schalken the Painter", a story about the Devil.

There's plenty of time to spend in good company with Samhain/Halloween just around the corner! 

Comme vous avez pu le comprendre si vous suivez la campagne, « Carmilla & Others Sories » comprend trois nouvelles écrites par Sheridan le Fanu, un écrivain irlandais du XIXe siècle :

De quoi passer du bon temps en bonne compagnie avec la période de Samhain/Halloween qui arrive ! 

Today I'm taking you through the creation of the scene I call the confession. It belongs to the story of 'Green Tea', but I won't say any more about it because I don't want to give the story away.

Aujourd’hui, je vous emmène dans la création de la scène que j'appelle la confession. Elle appartient au récit de « Thé Vert », mais je n'en dirai pas davantage pour ne pas vous révéler l'histoire.

For this photograph, my team and I went to a magnificent biscuit factory and tearoom called L'Art Gourmand!

Pour cette photographie, nous nous sommes rendus, mon équipe et moi, dans une magnifique biscuiterie, salon de thé appelé L'Art Gourmand !

Located in Rochefort-en-Terre, it has all the charm typical of old Breton homes! The place is so magnificent because the owners have a real sense of aesthetics and work year after year to embellish the surroundings (new antique furniture, new cups made by a ceramist to serve drinks, etc.).

Située à Rochefort-en-Terre, elle possède tout le charme typique des vieilles demeures bretonnes ! Si cet endroit est aussi magnifique, c'est également, car les propriétaires possèdent un véritable sens esthétique et travaillent années après années à l’embellissement de ce cadre (nouveaux meubles chinés, nouvelles tasses fabriquées par une céramiste pour servir les boissons, etc…).

It's always a delight to stop here. In fact, Yoann and I stop here every time we come to Rochefort-en-Terre. Especially when it's time for a hot chocolate and some shortbread! It's a beautiful place, where you always feel good, with a little je ne sais quoi of 'hobbitebourg'. At this time of year, I also come here to stock up on candied fruit, which I love! In short, a great address if you want to feast your eyes and whet your palate too!

C'est toujours un délice de s'y arrêter. D'ailleurs, c'est un lieu où Yoann et moi, nous arrêtons à chaque fois que nous venons à Rochefort-en-Terre. Surtout à l'heure du chocolat chaud et de quelques sablés ! C'est un endroit beau, où l'on se sent toujours bien, avec un petit je ne sais quoi de « hobbitebourg ». À cette période de l'année, j'y viens aussi me fournir en fruits confits, que j'adore ! Bref une super adresse, si vous voulez en prendre plein les yeux et également aiguiser votre palais !

The tearoom is a small room, very welcoming, with authentic stone walls. And that's what I chose for the confession scene. I'd done a few tests with Yoann during one of our visits. And it was perfect! All that remained was to create an atmosphere of intimacy and mystery...

La salle du salon de thé est une petite salle, très accueillante avec notamment des murs en pierre authentiques. Et c'est cette partie-là que j'avais retenue pour cette scène de la confession. J'avais fait quelques essais avec Yoann lors de l'un de nos passages. Et c'était parfait ! Il ne restait plus qu'à créer une ambiance d'intimité et de mystère...

We were given an exceptionally generous welcome by our hosts, who allowed us to settle in comfortably and make the tea room our own to work in.

Nous avons été accueillis avec une générosité exceptionnelle par nos hôtes qui nous ont permis de nous installer confortablement et de nous approprier l'espace du salon de thé pour travailler.

While my brother transformed himself into a priest and Yoann into a doctor, François and I prepared the table and the little alcove in the wall with a collection of objects. A Madonna, a few idols, candles, my battered old teapot, a jug of water, a sugar bowl and a bottle of spirits. It's a timeless setting.

Pendant que mon frère se transformait en prêtre et que Yoann se muait en docteur, je préparais avec François la table et la petite alcôve dans le mur avec des objets rassemblés. Une Sainte Vierge, quelques idoles, des bougies, ma vieille théière toute cabossée, un broc d'eau, un sucrier et une bouteille d'alcool. Voilà un décor hors du temps.

Yoann was wearing his clothes, the most accurate historically speaking. To which I added a pair of old-fashioned glasses and a pipe I'd borrowed from a repentant smoker (well done and thank you Thomas!).

Yoann portait ses vêtements, les plus juste historiquement parlant. Ce à quoi j'avais ajouté des petites lunettes anciennes et une pipe que j'avais emprunté à un fumeur repenti (bravo et merci Thomas!). 

 Guillaume was dressed by Les Vertugadins. I'd like to take this opportunity to make a point about the problem of shoes when you're trying to build a toilet that makes sense from a historical point of view. Add to that the fact that my brother wears a size 47... I was a bit at a loss! It was a bit of a running gag at the shoot.

Guillaume était habillé par Les Vertugadins. J'en profite pour faire un point sur la galère des chaussures lorsque l'on essaye de construire une toilette qui tient la route d'un point de vue historique. Ajoutez à cela que mon frère chausse du 47... j'étais un petit peu dépourvu ! Ca a été un peu le running gag des shoots. 

This was the first photo my brother posed for! And although it wasn't an easy exercise, my two models managed it admirably!

Ce fut la première photo pour laquelle mon frère a posé ! Et bien que l'exercice ne soit vraiment pas aisé, mes deux modèles s'en sont sortis admirablement bien !

Personally, I've noticed that when you get people who aren't used to modelling, and who aren't attracted to modelling, you manage to get rid of all the stratagems and tricks inherent in modelling, as well as the artifices of ego and narcissism, to get at something authentic and sincere. Of course, Guillaume and Yoann needed guidance to embody their characters, but what they gave me was right and real. With application, they offered me the natural authenticity of their personality, in line with what I was looking for in them for their character.

Personnellement, j'ai remarqué que lorsque l'on faisait poser des personnes qui n'avaient pas l’habitude de l'exercice, et qui n'était pas attiré par le fait de poser, on arrivait à se débarrasser de tout les stratagèmes et ruses inhérents au travail de modèle, ainsi que des artifices de l’ego et du narcissisme, pour toucher à quelque chose d'authentique, de sincère. Certes, Guillaume et Yoann ont eu besoin d'être guidé pour incarner leur personnage, mais ce qu'ils m'ont donné était juste, et réel. Avec application, ils m'ont offert l'authenticité naturel de leur personnalité, en accord avec ce que je venais chercher chez eux pour leur personnage.
