"Green Tea" - Scene II - An Evening with Lady Mary Heyduke

 Now that you know about the three short stories that will be in the 'Carmilla & Other Stories' book ('Carmilla', 'Green Tea' and 'Schalken the Painter'), let's get back to the short story 'Green Tea'. 

For those of you who are interested, my previous articles cover all the elements in detail.

The polaroid souvenir - Le polaroid souvenir

This new scene was shot on the same day as the one I showed you earlier, near the Chapelle in Rochefort en Terre.

It was just before Christmas and we were completely numb from the cold after having put all our heart and soul into taking the first photos. 

My team and I arrived back at my house mid-morning. It was time for a hot chocolate and a little nap for those who could.

Cette nouvelle scène a été réalisée le même jour que celle que je vous ai dévoilée précédemment, prés de la Chapelle à Rochefort en Terre.

C'était à l'approche de Noël et nous étions complètement engourdis par le froid après avoir mis tout notre cœur dans la réalisation des premières photos. 

Mon équipe et moi sommes rentrés à ma maison en milieu de matinée. C'était l'heure d'un bon chocolat chaud et d'une petite sieste pour ceux qui le pouvaient.

François in the middle of a nap! - François en plein roupillon ! 

The young man you see appearing from time to time and who was a great help to me on this intensive day of shooting is my cousin François. He works in the film industry as an assistant director of photography ("Illusion perdue")! In other words, he was a great recruit for my project! I'd like to thank him very much for his help and for all the backstage photos and videos he had time to take!

Le jeune homme que vous voyez apparaître de temps en temps et qui m'a été d'une grande aide sur cette journée de shooting intensive c'est mon cousin François. Il travaille dans le cinéma en tant qu'assistant chef opérateur (« Illusion perdue »)! Autant dire une recrue de choix pour mon projet ! Je le remercie beaucoup pour son aide et toutes les photos et vidéos backstage qu'il a eu le temps de faire !

Meanwhile, I was preparing the setting for this photograph, which I had imagined in my garden. I wanted to emphasise the secret discussion between Doctor Hesselius and Lady Mary Heyduke about the strange behaviour of the Reverend Mr Robert Lynder Jennings.

Pendant ce temps, je préparais le décor de cette photographie que j'avais imaginé dans mon jardin. Je souhaitais insister sur la discussion secrète entre Docteur Hesselius et  Lady Mary Heyduke à propos des comportements étranges du révérend M. Robert Lynder Jennings.

I had something very Victorian in mind for this image, in which the mystery has just begun to emerge... 

To achieve this, I used my Victorian-inspired garden table, which I dressed up with an old teapot, an old English tea service, a handful of candles and delicate seasonal decorations. 

J'avais en tête quelque chose de très victorien pour cette image dans laquelle le mystère vient juste de poindre son nez... 

Pour cela, j'ai utilisé ma table de jardin d'inspiration victorienne que j'ai habillée d'une ancienne théière, d'un vieux service à thé anglais, d'une poignée de bougies et de délicates décorations saisonnières.

For this scene, Yoann, who plays the Doctor, donned his beautiful burgundy coat designed by Stéphanie Wahli.

As for Lady Mary, that role is played by my sister-in-law Daria! It was incredibly fun to give her a makeover. It was a complete change from her usual style, but I thought it suited her perfectly, bringing out her fresh, perfectly Victorian complexion! I thank her affectionately for bringing this character to life. 

For this scene she wore one of my dresses and one of my blouses.

Pour cette scène, Yoann, qui incarne le Docteur, a revêtu son beau manteau bordeaux réalisé par Stéphanie Wahli.

En ce qui concerne Lady Mary, ce rôle est interprété par ma belle-sœur Daria ! C'était incroyablement amusant de la relooker. Cela la changeait complètement de son style habituel, mais j'ai trouvé que cela lui allait à merveille, mettant en valeur son teint frais et parfaitement victorien ! Je la remercie affectueusement pour avoir donné vie à ce personnage. 

Elle porte pour cette scène l'une de mes robes et l'un de mes chemisiers.

The advantage of working from home is that I can really offer something comfortable for my team, who can eat in peace, change out of sight and use the bathroom. It's much nicer! I also have all my equipment available to transform them (costumes, make-up, hairdressing equipment). And another important factor: I have no time limits other than the pace of my models. Because when you're on a rented or loaned location, there's always a timetable to keep to, which you have to take scrupulously into account.

L'avantage de travailler chez soi, c'est que je peux vraiment proposer quelque chose de confortable pour mon équipe qui peut se restaurer tranquillement, se changer à l’abri des regards, disposer de la salle de bain. C'est plus agréable ! J'ai également tout mon matériel à disposition pour les transformer (costume, maquillage, matériel de coiffure). Et autre facteur important : je n'ai pas d'autres limites temporelles que le rythme de mes modèles. Car lorsque l'on est sur un lieu loué ou prêté, il y a toujours un horaire à respecter qu'il faut prendre en compte scrupuleusement.
