Today, we're diving into the depths of gothic darkness by exploring the staging of a blood-curdling photograph... Here's a new scene from 'Green Tea'!

As usual, I won't tell you anything about the context of this scene in the story, but you should know that at some point the priest goes to bed, and the least we can say is that he's not serene...

Aujourd'hui, nous allons plonger dans les profondeurs de l'obscurité gothique en explorant la mise en scène d'une photographie à vous glacer le sang... Voici une nouvelle scène de « Thé Vert » !

Comme d'habitude, je ne vous raconte rien du contexte de cette scène dans l'histoire, mais sachez que le prêtre à un moment va se coucher, et le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est qu'il n'est pas serein...

Originally, for this production, I had found a magnificent little room in an Art Nouveau house in Rennes. But I couldn't find just the right people for the project, so I couldn't go ahead... Unfortunately.

In photography, unlike in drawing, it's imperative to find the right locations, the right costumes and the right props, because I wouldn't be able to recreate it in post-production (in any case, in my vision of photography, which I want to ground in reality). There are so many incredible places, splendid costumes and inspiring objects out there, and I want to honour the beauty of human creation through my photos, not the virtual.

It was with regret that I had to abandon my first shooting location. And I was really annoyed, because I'd already started making my sketches for the staging at the location.

À l'origine, pour cette mise en scène, j'avais trouvé une magnifique petite pièce dans une maison Art Nouveau à Rennes. Mais je ne pouvais pas tomber que sur des personnes bienveillantes pour ce projet, et je n'ai pas pu donner suite... Malheureusement.

En photographie, contrairement au dessin, il est impératif de trouver les bons lieux, les bons costumes, les accessoires justes, car je ne pourrais pas le recréer en postproduction (en-tout-cas dans ma vision de la photographie que je souhaite encrer dans le réel). Il existe tellement d'endroits incroyables, de costumes splendides, d'objets inspirants, je souhaite aussi rendre honneur aux beautés de la création humaines à travers mes photos, et non pas honorer le virtuel.

C'est à regret, que j'ai dû abandonner mon premier lieu de shooting. Et j'étais fort embêtée, car j'avais déjà commencé à faire mes croquis pour la mise en scène à partir du lieu.

After a period of deep reflection, tinged with anguish, I finally realised that I had an ingenious solution, and it was in my grandmother's bedroom!

Après une période de profonde réflexion teintée d'angoisse, j'ai finalement pris conscience que j'avais une solution tout à fait ingénieuse, et elle se trouvait dans la chambre de ma grand-mère !

So we went to her house to make this picture! I think she thought I was doing something a bit strange, but she was delighted to welcome us!

My grandmother has an old bedroom, with a lovely old bed with a headboard and footboard! Just what I wanted for my composition!

Nous sommes donc allés chez elle pour réaliser cette image ! Je crois qu'elle s'est un petit peu dit que je faisais des choses étranges, mais elle était ravie de nous accueillir !

Ma grand-mère possède une chambre ancienne, avec un joli vieux lit pourvu d'une tête et d'un pied de lit ! Ce que je souhaitais absolument pour ma composition !

Setting up the decor - Mise en place du décor

It's funny that I used this room, because above the bed you'll find a portrait of my grandmother as a child. It's a lovely black and white photo, as they don't make them any more... And some old family photos from a bygone era...

I added a few religious books, rosaries, a candle and an old crocheted bedspread.

C'est amusant pour moi d'avoir utilisé cette pièce, car vous trouverez au-dessus du lit un portrait de ma grand-mère enfant. Une jolie photo en noir et blanc comme l'on en fait plus... Et des vieilles photos de famille d'un autre temps...

J'ai peaufiné mon décor avec quelques livres religieux, des chapelets, une bougie, un vieux dessus de lit en crochet.

I had a few inspirational images, like the character of Mr Scrooge in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

J'avais quelques images d'inspiration comme le personnage de Mr Scrooge dans « A Christmas Carol” de Charles Dickens.

I realised that what I was asking of my brother was going to be difficult!
All I had to do now was coach my model.

Je me rendais compte que ce que je demandais à mon frère allait être difficile !
Il ne me restait plus qu'à coacher mon modèle.

I try to coach him, but I realise how complex expression is! - J'essaye de le coacher, mais je me rends compte à quel point l'expression est complexe!

And finally, he's completely found his style! After a few photos where we tried things that were sometimes too grimace-y and sometimes too caricature-y, we came up with the perfect expression.

I think we could also rename the final photo: "Me and my depression in the evening".

Et finalement, il a complètement trouvé son style ! Après quelques photos à essayer des choses allant parfois trop vers la grimace ou parfois trop vers la caricature, nous avons abouti à l'expression parfaite.

Je crois qu'on pourrait aussi renommer la photo finale : “Moi et ma dépression le soir”

J'espère sincèrement que la photo vous plaira !
