My jet set birthday in Florence ^^

I celebrated my birthday with the cream of Florence: Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Lippi (father and son)! 😎

More seriously, we went to visit the Uffizi Gallery, which is like the Louvre in Florence. It is full of beautiful pieces of art from the Italian Renaissance! Including those of Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Lippi! It was wonderful !

Like the Louvre, the Uffizi Gallery is gigantic ... we must target what we really want to see. What a pleasure it was to discover for real Botticelli's paintings! The colors are much softer than the reproductions that are usually found! It was amazing to discover the artworks of Filippo Lippi (Master Botticelli) who has nothing to envy to his student (we found).

Once again, it is striking to see how important the place of art is in a growing civilization / city. Through this relationship between artists and patrons (who each find their interests) we see the birth of periods and artistic movements of fabulous wealth, this allows to assert their greatness and their power for families like the Medicis or the Borgias in Italy. A summit of refinement that tried to torment and destroy Savonarole, Dominican brother who was at the origin of the fall of the Medici and the infamous "bonfire of the vanities" that deprived us of many artworks of Botticelli (notably). In spite of everything, what energy has been able to bring out this association between the artist and its patron in this Florence of the Renaissance, which leaves us in such a short time, among the greatest artworks in the history of Art. Art really has an important role in a civilization that wishes to flourish.

Plus sérieusement 😊, nous sommes allés visiter le Galerie des Offices, qui est comme le Louvre de Florence. Elle regorge de magnifiques pièces d'art de la Renaissance Italienne ! Dont celles de Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Lippi ! C'était merveilleux !

Comme le Louvre, la Galerie des Offices est gigantesque... il faut cibler ce qu'on a vraiment envie de voir. Quel bonheur cela a été de découvrir en vrai les tableaux de Botticelli ! Les teintes sont beaucoup plus douces que les reproductions que l'on trouve habituellement ! C'était épatant de découvrir les Filippo Lippi (Maitre de Botticelli) qui n'a rien à envier à son élève (a-t-on trouvé).

Encore une fois, il est marquant de voir à quel point dans une civilisation/cité en plein essor, la place de l'art est importante. A travers cette relation entre des artistes et des mécènes (qui y trouvent chacun leurs intérêts) on voit naître des périodes et des mouvements artistiques d'une richesse fabuleuse, ceci permettant d'affirmer leur grandeur et leur pouvoir pour des familles comme les Médicis ou les Borgias en Italie. Un sommet de raffinement qu'aura essayé de brimer et détruire Savonarole, frère dominicain qui fut à l'origine de la chute des Médicis et du tristement célèbre bucher des vanités qui nous aura privé de nombreuses oeuvre de Botticelli notamment. Malgré tout, quelle énergie a su faire émerger cette association entre l'artiste et son commanditaire dans cette Florence de la Renaissance, qui nous laisse en si peu de temps, parmi les plus grandes oeuvres de l'histoire de l'Art. L'Art a véritablement un rôle important dans une civilisation qui se souhaite florissante.

I was super excited to see this Giorgone board! He made the cover of one of Anne Rice's books and was part of my teenage years! 😊
