Witchcraft's day

After this little tour in Cornwall, we went to our next cottage in Salisbury.

On the way, on the advice of Jason of England, we stopped at St Nectan'sWaterfall. A stroll and a magnificent waterfall, steeped with old pagan beliefs. It reminded us of our home, Brocéliande and its forest walks with pretty natural places. A relaxing, calm moment. 

 

 Then, we headed for the famous "Museum of Witchcraft and Magic" of Boscastle. It was also a place I had been dreaming of visiting for a long time. And we were not disappointed! The set design was awesome. Lots of beautiful objects, an impressive collection!

 Witchcraft and magic are approached from the angle of survival of "paganism and wise women" which is very interesting. It was very documented, unfortunately we felt limited by our English, not specific enough to understand the full terms.

The exhibition places particular emphasis on plants, objects of protection, in general ways the symbolism of sorcery. To complete the circle, some witches have been found in Bodmin Jail .... (see previous article). We absolutely loved it!

I could not resist bringing me back a rainbow of candles to cast some spells 😉 

The town of Boscastle itself is quite charming, it is possible to stroll through its streets and let yourself be transported by its atmosphere. An astonishing anecdote, in 2004, the city was hit by a flash flood that the "Museum of Witcraft and Magic" escaped. Spell protection? 😉

 In the evening, still in the direction of Salisbury, where we had our apartment, we stopped in Wells to eat in one of the most famous pubs of the city, the "Crown" where a part of one of the The "Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy" film was made.

And we enjoyed a walk around the castle and the Cathedral.

Après ce petit tour en Cornouaille, nous sommes partis en direction de notre prochain cottage à Salisbury.

En route, sur les conseils de Jason of England, nous nous sommes arrêtés à St Nictan'sWaterfall. Une promenade et une cascade magnifique, chargée de vielles croyances païennes. Cela nous a un peu fait penser à chez nous, Brocéliande et ses promenades en foret avec de jolies lieux naturels.

Un moment reposant, calme.

Puis nous avons filé en direction du célèbre musée sur la sorcellerie et la magie de Boscastle. C'était également un lieu que je rêvais de faire depuis longtemps. Et nous n'avons pas été déçu ! La scénographie était génial. Beaucoup de jolis objets, une collection impressionnante ! La sorcellerie et la magie sont abordées sous un angle de survivance "du paganisme et des femmes savantes" ce qui est très intéressant. C'était très documenté, malheureusement nous nous sommes sentis limité par notre anglais pas assez spécifique pour comprendre l'intégralité des termes.

L'exposition insiste particulièrement sur les plantes, les objets de protections, de manières générales le symbolisme de la sorcellerie.

Pour boucler la boucle, certaines sorcières ce sont retrouvées à Bodmin Jail.... (voir article précédent).

On a vraiment adoré ! Je n'ai pas pu résister à me ramener en souvenir un arc-en-ciel de bougies pour lancer quelques charmes ;)

La ville de Boscastle en elle-même est assez charmante, il est possible de déambuler dans ses rues et de se laisser porter par son atmosphère. Anecdote étonnante, en 2004, la ville a été touchée par une crue soudaine dont le "Museum of Witcraft and Magic" a réchappé. Sort de protection ? 😉

Le soir, toujours en direction de Salisbury où nous avions notre appartement, nous nous sommes arrêtés à Wells pour manger dans un des pub les plus célèbres de la ville, le "Crown", où a été tournée une partie d'un des films de la "Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy". Et nous avons pu profiter d'une promenade autour du chateau et de la Cathédrale.
