Petit séjour en Alsace

On the occasion of a stay in the east of France, we went to Alsace, where Yoann has family. We crossed the Haut Rhin, to Strasbourg.

Here are some memories of two great places visited during this trip: The charming town of Kaysersberg and the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg.

Kaysersberg was elected favorite village of the French in 2017, after Rochefort-en-Terre which we have already mentioned in several previous articles. The snow has accompanied us all along this journey, iced landscape but so magical! The historic center is charming, the traditional and colorful half-timbered houses succeed one another. There are many shops selling local produce, gingerbread, wine, beer, and other souvenirs. It was the opportunity to taste the famous flames pie, or "Flammekueche".


A l'occasion d'un séjour dans l'est de la France, nous sommes remontés vers l'Alsace où Yoann a de la famille. Nous avons traversé le Haut Rhin, jusqu'à Strasbourg. 

Voici quelques souvenirs de deux superbes lieux visités pendant ce voyage : La charmante ville de Kaysersberg et le château du Haut-Koenigsbourg.

Kaysersberg a été élue village préféré des français en 2017, après Rochefort-en-Terre dont nous avons déjà parlé dans plusieurs articles précédents.  La neige nous a accompagné tout le long de ce périple, décor glacé mais ô combien magique ! Le centre historique est charmant, les maisons à colombage traditionnelles et colorées s'y succèdent. On y trouve de nombreuses boutiques de produits du terroir, pain d'épice, vin, bières, et autres souvenirs. Ca a été l'occasion de déguster la fameuse tarte flambée, ou Flammekueche.

The castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg is located a few kilometers to the north, perched almost 800m above sea level. It is an old castle of the twelfth century, deeply reworked in the fifteenth century and was under Wilhelm II an imperial German symbol. By his whimsical side, he reminded us of the Bavarian castles erected by Ludwig II. The base is quite medieval, but the very beginning of the twentieth century has left a palpable mark: the grounds, ornamentation and even some architectural additions with very romantic accents.
It was a delight to go through it "all fluffy".

Le château du Haut-Koenigsbourg se situe à quelques kilomètres vers le nord, perché à presque 800m d'altitude. C'est un ancien château fort du XIIe siècle, profondément remanié au XVe siècle et qui fut sous Guillaume II un symbole impérial allemand. Par son coté fantasque, il nous a rappelé les chateaux de Bavière érigés par Ludwig II. La base en est tout à fait médiévale, mais le tout début du XXe siècle y a laissé une empreint palpable : les motifs, ornementations et même certains ajouts architecturaux aux accents très romantiques.
Ca a été un délice de le parcourir "tout cotonneux".
