"Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth" and Oxford day

When we considered this new journey, we wanted to do a road trip. Move from day to day to an inspiring destination, while enjoying every step to visit a place that attracts us, or that we wish to discover for a long time ...

This second day began in the Middle-Earth, in the kingdom of J.R.R Tolkien. We had reserved two places for the exhibition "Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth", in Oxford, in an annex of the Bodleian library. The exhibition is exciting and allows you to immerse yourself in the personal universe of the professor. There are many original drawings, annotations, anecdotes. The scenography is excellent and despite the lack of space, the exhibition is intense. Each document is contextualized and allows to dive into the life of the famous writer. There are some pieces of furniture, his armchair, his desk, some pipes or his hat. But the most impressive : we were amazed to see so many original watercolors, such as the famous covers he made or the illustration "conversation with Smaug" among many others. Although they are small, they are full of details and emphasize the meticulousness of their author. There are also several interactive terminals (test your level in Elvish!) and a large map in relief tracing the path of the Fellowship of the Ring, but also the sumptuous and rare maps of the Middle-Earth illustrated by Pauline Baynes. A "must see" for all lovers of Tolkien's works!

After this beautiful exhibition, eyes already full of stars, we headed to the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin. This church, dedicated to the Virgin, is especially famous for the trial of the three Anglican bishops which was held there in 1556 during the reign of Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary). Catholic queen, she tried to restore her religion in bloody ways ...
John Locke, Lewis Carroll, Albert Einstein, and many other illustrious characters studied at Christ Church College. It is a remarkable place that we loved to visit! It is also within these walls that have been shot some scenes of the movies "Harry Potter"! Between "return to childhood" and admiration for so much splendor and glorious destinies, it was a journey full of emotions.
It was the same for the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest public library in the world! The tour began with the Divinity School, a 15th-century room that also served as a decor for the Harry Potter movies. Here, the exams were passed in Latin and only in oral.
We then discovered the old library in which the photos are banned for a really good reason: to prevent possible thieves from locating precisely in the shelves an invaluable manuscript.
The atmosphere is indescribable in this place of knowledge.
And we wandered in Oxford:
Et nous avons flâné dans Oxford :
